Is adding more justices practically possible? For example, could it be accomplished before the midterms? It certainly couldn't be accomplished—except to add more Conservative justices—if the Senate changes hands in a few months. And, if, as you suggest, this requires ending the filibuster, is that prerequisite politically possible?

Ideological court packing whenever a party had the political power to do so would seem to decrease the Court's legitimacy even more, unless the appointed ideologues chose to embrace the modest posture you describe. But why would they do that? We seem a long way from the New Deal.
