You're probably right about the "see her in 4 years" thing. The most amazing thing about the GOP race has been the fact that The Donald is easily the most moderate on policy since Christie left, but the press plays him as the most right-wing. I know presentation counts, but DeSantis made a conscious decision to run far to the right of Trump and as you pointed out, Haley is actually ferociously right-wing on economic policy. Good stuff, Nate.

It goes to the failure of the media to engage the substance of policy and instead base evaluations on presentation of self. Haley talks in down home folksey terms so she's the "moderate" while Trump sylistically is bombastic and DeSantis is, well, an asshole, which both get coded as extreme. Now everyone here is extreme in different ways, but it's the presentation that gets coded in the media.

Although while Trump is definitely more moderate on social security, where he distinguished himself back in 2016 in rejecting any kind of entitlement "reform," not sure where to code "I'll be a dictator but only for one day" as policy on the political spectrum :)
